1. 10,500 athletes from 205 countries will be participating in the games. In addition, there are 4,200 Paralympic athletes competing for 165 nations. There will be 26 Olympic sports and 19 Paralympic sports.

4. McDonald’s is opening a 30,000 square meter restaurant with a seating capacity of 1,500 people as part of its sponsorship of the games. It is the largest location ever opened by McDonald’s.
5. There are 2,800 athlete apartments in the Olympic Village. The goal of the organizers is that 97 per cent of athletes should be living no more than 30 minutes away from their event venue.
6. The number of meals expected to be served at the Olympics is a mind-boggling 14 million! 25,000 loaves of bread, and 75,000 liters of milk are expected to be consumed.
7. The London 2012 Megastore offers the most extensive range of the London 2012 licensed products in a single store. It is one of four London 2012 shops in the Olympic park, and spans more than 4,000 square meters.
8. 8 million tickets are available to purchase for the athletic events and the opening and closing ceremonies for the Olympics (as well as 1.6 million tickets for the Paralympics).
9. Athletes heading home after the Games will receive very special treatment indeed! In fact, a special terminal has been built at Heathrow Airport just for them.
10. 12,000 new jobs are being generated in the Olympic Park.
